Still...

And one day she was gone.

He had a friend. A friend he loved. A friend who was there for him those days he got depressed, those days he was bursting into laughing, the days he hated, the days he loved, whenever it was, she was there, by his side.

She had promised him to stay as long as he let her, even when mistakes he made hurt her, she staid there. ‘Cause she had made a promise, a real one, the first one she was willing to keep. The promise to be there for him, and he was the only one who could pull her away.

He loved her. He sat for hours on end just staring at her photos, reading stories she’d written, singing songs that would describe her in every perfect detail. But she was just a friend.

Days went by, and she was still sitting there, eyes empty, sight of heaven, slitting her nails, dreaming of sail. He kept her next to him, he wasn’t ready to lose her, thinking he’d never be ready to.

Then, the storm exploded. The rain covered the trees, and the heaven, the sky she stared at, got covered with grey clouds, not even being able to look at them. The rain wouldn’t let her.

The water filled her eyes with so much more than what she could take, and they were closed forever, ‘cause she was never able to push the rain away. And she felt in her eyes, her windows to the world, and her windows to him, that was raining forever.

And since she couldn’t open them, she thought he had left. Cause the water felled her ears too, so she couldn’t hear his voice whispering words. Words that she could never even imagine were there, waiting for the water to come out, so they could get in, walk around, and stay in her heart. And so the rain felled her mouth too, the kisses he gave felt like clouds to her. Grey clouds. And she thought the rain never stopped, ‘cause that was all she could feel.

The sun had come up long ago, but the rain was still in her eyes.

And she couldn’t feel him anymore.

He never knew what had happened to her friend, the one there always. She was by his side, she was, as she promised, but she wasn’t really there, she seemed lost, she seemed disturbed, she seemed just sad. And he thought it was his fault. And he wasn’t wrong at all, it was, because at that night he didn’t protect her from the storm.

And the water felled her all. So she just sat there, with him, eyes shut, heart shrunk. And for the rain never left her, she left him. Because she really felt he had finally asked her to leave. And then, one day she was gone.

Gone, gone… Gone forever.
